Artur M - Your troubleshooting and sharing is greatly appreciated! That is the issue. Clearly some kind of bug in the way that NLnotes.exe is hooking into nView Nvidia software.
I came upon this post after troubleshooting this hanging issue as well, and I found that the USER Objects had reached 10000 and stopped for nlnotes.exe. Windows 7 x64 with 32GB of ram, I knew it wasn't the capacity of the system that was the problem. I've been fighting with this issue off and on for a couple years now, but I had never seen the user object 10k limit symptom before.
Armed with that information, I googled, "Lotus Notes" "user objects" "10000" and bang: ArturM's was the first hit, and the actual solution.
Weird but great find on disabling nwiz.exe.
